DATA SECURITY

Certifications:
Ocean is fully PIPEDA compliant and ISO27001 and SOC2 Type 2 certified

Encryption:
In transit: 256-bit AES

At rest: 256-bit AES

Authentication:
Ocean supports MFA, and site administrators have the ability to mandate MFA for all users with access to their Ocean site. Ocean’s broader platform also supports OAuth2, including: OAuth2 client credentials for secure third-party integration and integration with Ontario ONE ID via OpenID Connect and OAuth2 for single sign-on (SSO).

Logging & Monitoring:
Ocean has a comprehensive logging and monitoring framework designed to support both security and operational oversight including immutable audit logs capturing which users did what, when, and where.

Data residency
All PHI remains in Canada at all times. Ocean is hosted entirely on Canadian AWS infrastructure, ensuring that data, backups, and system components stay within Canadian borders. This includes: Application servers, databases, encrypted backups (via AWS EBS Snapshots) and logging infrastructure
Data usage
OceanMD does not claim ownership of any PHI. The health information custodians retain full ownership and control. PHI is only processed as necessary to deliver the Ocean services. OceanMD cannot decrypt PHI, as all PHI is encrypted using site-managed Shared Encryption Keys. Employees cannot view PHI, even for support purposes.
